Praia de Ancora to Oia Monastery
Walking Day 21: 28 km, 6 hrs
Today’s journey was 28.28 km overall, 26.3 walking and 2 km on the ferry.
We made a two hour forced march to Caminha to catch the first ferry across the Minho River to Spain.
After arriving on the Spanish side of the Minho, we took the “long way” along the coast to A Guarda rather than the route up and over the hills that I took the preceding September. We walked the first few kilometers on the Spanish side with Jay, a college professor from San Antonio.
In A Guarda, we saw a book fair in the town square, complete with live entertainment and dancing. The narrow oceanside trails out of A Guarda to the Oia Monastery were beautiful. There are additional details of the monastery here, and additional photos here.
We ate dinner at the Casa Cultural de Oia, with a great ocean view.
